Professor Keyoumars Ashkan: President of IMS

President of the British Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Chairman of the Neurosurgery Section of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, Genomics England’s 100KP UK Lead for Brain Tumours, Associate Editor British Journal of Neurosurgery.

 

Professor Ashkan qualified from Cardiff in 1993 with commendations in medicine and surgery and a first class honours degree in biochemistry. He underwent dual postgraduate training in surgery and medicine obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and the Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Glasgow in 1998. Thereafter, he underwent higher specialist training in neurosurgery in London being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery in 2002. His subspecialist training in functional, stereotactic and image guided neurosurgery included a fellowship in France which led to a MD degree. He was a senior lecturer in neurosurgery at the Institute of Neurology from 2004 to 2006. He was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at Kings College Hospital and the lead for Neuro-oncology as well as an honorary senior lecturer at Kings College London in 2007. He was promoted to the position of a Reader (Associate Professor) in Neurosurgery in 2011 and then Professor of Neurosurgery in 2014. He was honoured with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2017. Professor Ashkan has won over 20 undergraduate and postgraduate prizes and scholarships. He has chaired, attended and presented papers in over 250 national and international meetings. He has published over 400 full papers, abstracts and book chapters.

 

 

 

Dr Namdar Baghaee: Vice President and Treasurer

Namdar was educated at King’s College London (B.Sc.) and Imperial College (Ph.D.) where he also did his post-doctoral research. In the last 30 years, he has worked on production of biofuels and microbiology of industrially important bacteria at: British Gas London Research Station, UK Atomic Energy Authority (Harwell), Imperial College, University of Surrey, Shell Oil and several biotechnology SMEs. He was the winner of the prestigious 1993 French Cereal Prize for his research on the thermophilic ethanol fermentation process. He is currently Managing Director of Biotech Consultants Ltd and a Visiting Industrial Scientist at the University of Westminster in London.

Dr Shahdeh Parsapour: Secretary

Born in Tehran, Iran, Shadeh received her degree in medicine from the University of Pavia, Italy. After 5 years training in Vascular Surgery she took a position as a Vascular Surgeon in Milan. In 2009 she moved to the UK and started working at the Regional Vascular Unit in Liverpool. Shadeh eventually joined her family in London and now works at the Vascular Unit in Northwick Park Hospital. An enthusiastic writer, she has published several articles in Italian journals and has attended and/or presented papers in many Italian and international meetings.
